On Wednesday, January 23rd, we had the privilege to talk with Camila Ryhl about universal design; we waited for her in the mezzanine with a warm soup, where Camila told us about the lecture that she was going to give at the school.
Through her professional and academic experience, Camila made us think about the different types of disabilities and how architecture or design can influence the quality of life of these people.
Camila made us understand that architecture and design must be accessible to all and that accessibility must be invisible and inclusive for everyone.
Another important aspect that Camila cited in her lecture was how architectural spaces can stimulate all our senses. As an example Camila cited the Pantheon in Rome, this classical construction attracts thousands of people every day. Camila encouraged us to visit this building during different times of the day to pay attention to how the light varies and how the atmosphere of the space changes.
Camila's conference was to explore the impact of universal design throughout the different stages of our life. We should design buildings and spaces that are accessible to all ages so that they can be actively used as we get older and our senses change.
